2014 Shelby GT500
"From blow up to fully built"
Dallas Williams, a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, contacted us after his 2014 Shelby GT500 suffered a catastrophic engine failure. He discovered our website and knew we were the right choice for a replacement. Dallas described shifting from fourth to fifth gear at over 160 mph when his engine let go. The connecting rod broke, causing extensive damage to the engine block, oil cooler, and even a cylinder head. This was one of the worst engine failures our team had ever encountered.
Team JDM, our expert technicians, took charge of the repair. After removing the engine and assessing the damage, we began building a new 5.8L Trinity shortblock capable of 1200 HP. We also machined his damaged cylinder heads and performed a complete competition valve job. Dallas opted for a more race-oriented engine and chose our Super Stock Camshaft Max Performance Upgrade. He further enhanced his Shelby with a 3.0L Whipple supercharger and Kooks long-tube headers.
After assembling his new engine, we equipped it with the supercharger, headers, larger fuel injectors, and other performance upgrades. The engine bay and undercarriage required extensive cleaning due to the fluids that leaked from the damaged engine. We also rebuilt his 8.8 rear end with 3.73 gears and bearings and installed Nitto 555 Gen 2 tires for improved traction. We then broke in the new engine and clutch, putting a few hundred miles on it.
With all pre-checks and diagnostic tests complete, we strapped this venomous Shelby onto the dyno. Jim D'Amore, our tuning expert, worked his magic with our SCT tuning software. The car belted out 760 RWHP on its first run, hitting the stock rev limiter. With the limiter raised to 7500 RPM and the engine still hot, it made 777 RWHP, all on only 12 degrees of spark. We knew it had more potential, so after cooling it down, we achieved our goal of 800 RWHP on 93 octane pump gas.
This same setup could produce nearly 900 RWHP with race gas, and with a better fuel system and more boost, we could exceed 1000 HP at the tires. For now, Dallas will enjoy his upgraded Shelby, but we anticipate he may return for further enhancements in the future.
